The Phases of Learning
Every child possesses the seeds of genius. To allow those seeds to sprout, children need time, example and freedom.
American Liberty Academy's offerings are based on natural phases of development. Our approach respects the needs and abilities of each individual. These phases are based on the findings of Erikson and Piaget.
Core Phase
In Core Phase, the most important things for children to learn are taught in the home, such as right from wrong, good from bad, love, relationships, hard work and wholesome play. Core phase is the time for parents to instill in their children deeply held core values and beliefs.
Approximate ages: 0-8
Love of Learning Phase
The name of this phase is self-explanatory. This phase is all about falling deeply in love with learning! Children in this phase need to be supported as they seemingly flit from one interest to another. They need the freedom to become engrossed in what they are passionate about, as they develop confidence in themselves and their ability to learn.
Approximate ages: 8-12
Scholar Phase
When puberty hits, young people are ready to begin scholar phase. They are going through many big changes, physically, mentally and emotionally. They begin to see themselves as distinct from parents and family, and begin to need outside mentors and peers. If they had good Core and LoL phases, they will have the confidence to be challenged and mentored through the scholar phases and emerge self-directed, with a strong sense of mission and purpose in their life.
Approximate ages: 12-16+
